MANCHESTER - Follow a stone wall off a dirt road into the woods
of New Hampshire and you're bound to come across an old cellar hole
surrounded by lilacs gone wild: a sign of vigor and vitality in a
spot long since deserted to nature.
Declared the state flower in 1919, the hardy wildflower will
be celebrated again this year with programs and festivities around
the state. On the first of the month, a proclamation was read and
Gov. Judd Gregg declared May lilac month to encourage people to
plant the flower and to kick off a series of festivities to
celebrate it.
The biggest effort takes place in Lisbon on Memorial Day
