Cherry Jones, who's played Rosalind, Lulu, Irina and Lady
Teazle at the American Repertory Theater, undercuts some of her
substantial credentials by admitting her simple goal: "I just want
to be known as that old theatrical broad -- you know what I mean?
That's what I want to be, that's how I want kids to think of me, as
an old theatrical broad."
Cherry Jones is a sunny, statuesque 31-year-old brunette whose
sense of humor is seemingly as estimable as her acting talent. She
has been a regular member of the ART acting company since 1980,
with a season off here and there for a movie role or, as she says
with a verbal shrug, "for matters more mundane." She explains her
