June is the promise fulfilled, the period of the great stillness,
leading to the great solstice holiday, when our Sun hangs suspended
in the sky for ten luminous days, interrupted by the year's
briefest nights, and even those redeemed by the brilliant summer
constellations.
June 1 -- June is peak time for breeding birds. Most are
breeding now, or even starting second broods. The robins, and
cardinals, the kingbirds, the hummingbirds, crows and grackles, the
song sparrows and the golden-winged warblers, the brown creepers
and the ovenbirds.
