What kind of person is it who puts enormous tires on a little
pickup and sets out to seek fame and fortune flattening sedans in
its path? You've probably seen snippets of such shenanigans on TV,
the so-called monster trucks climbing over and crushing the
defenseless old cars all lined up in a row for the slaughter.
The image car-bashing conjured up for me was of some low-IQ,
overweight, overmuscled, tattooed geek in a T-shirt with a pack of
Camels wrapped in the sleeve, waving a beer can and slavering on
the wheel as he crushed metal to the cheers of senseless multitudes.
Then I met a guy who does this for a hobby -- and some of his
friends and fellow monster-truck fanatics -- and ...
