It seems that all the flap these days over harmful ultraviolet
rays would be tough on sun worshipers.
You know what I mean by sun worshipers, don't you? Everyone
old enough to have seen those magazines from Sweden or someplace --
the ones where the three color separations didn't come out quite
right -- knows what "sun worshiper" means.
It was, of course, the 1950s code word for nudist.
As a kid, I was never quite sure whether nudism was a belief
or school of thought -- as the suffix "ism" would suggest -- that
one could engage in only after taking off one's clothes.
(How does an "ity" become an "ism," anyway, as in the
practice of "stupidism?" But that is an etymological ...
