Pictures look at us. The truth of this has seldom been
demonstrated in more detail than in the classical allegory "Wisdom
and Strength," one of a pair of canvases (the other is called "Vice
and Virtue") painted by Paolo Veronese in Venice in 1576.
Both paintings now adorn the Frick Collection, housed in a
white stone mansion on 70th Street between Madison and Fifth
Avenue, in New York. "Wisdom and Strength," in which the chromatics
emphasize crimsons and yellows with opulent browns blended into the
