GLOUCESTER - "The man at the wheel speaks for the city," said
Fred Kyrouz, the Gloucester city clerk. He was referring to the
Fisherman's Statue on Western Avenue, a symbol of this
Massachusetts fishing port.
A full picture of the city today includes more than just the
fishing industry, however. Gloucester is now home to a sizable
community of artists. Its business base has expanded to include
several hi-tech firms, and its location on rocky Cape Ann has
attracted not only summer residents but a pool of year-around
residents, too.
"We have all kinds of different things here," said Mark
Marbet, manager at the Vernon A. Martin real estate agency, "It's a
wonderful place to live."
