A Texas judge granted a new trial to a Mexican immigrant
on Death Row for nearly 14 years for allegedly killing a Houston
police officer.
State District Judge Werner Voigt set a Dec. 2 trial date for
Ricardo Aldape Guerra, whose original conviction was thrown out by a
federal judge in 1994.
Aldape was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death
in October 1982 for the murder of police officer James Harris. The
Mexican government has lobbied on behalf of Aldape, whose story has
been chronicled in books, ...
