Article: BU BUYS VACANT KENMORE SQUARE LOT SCHOOL WILL SWAP CASH, LAND FOR EXPANSION SITE

Boston University is buying an 18,500-square-foot vacant lot in Kenmore Square to add to its holdings there, as part of a 10-year plan to develop property in the area.

The university will swap $1.4 million in cash and a property it already owns at 565 Commonwealth Ave. for the lot, located at 10 Deerfield St. and owned by Sage Hotels and Lodges.

"The overall objective is to unify the campus so that at some point in the future we have a coherent piece of geography that comprises the Boston University campus," said Joseph Mercurio, senior vice president and head of the university's business affairs.
