Article: DR. LOUIS HERMANSON AT 85; SURGEON AT BETH ISRAEL, TEACHER

Dr. Louis Hermanson of Brookline, a surgeon and teacher who had been affiliated with Beth Israel Hospital since 1929, died Tuesday. He was 85.

Dr. Hermanson, who had recently finished a 10-year term as acting chief of surgery at the Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic, graduated cum laude from Tufts College Medical School in 1930.

As a fourth-year medical student in 1929 he interned in surgery at Beth Israel and helped establish a surgical research laboratory in an abandoned coal bin.
