NEW YORK - A brisk northwest wind blew swirls of sand down
Secretariat Avenue past the black and red shutters of Ogden Phipps'
stable on the Belmont Park backstretch early yesterday morning. The
orange and red leaves that floated through the autumn air made Easy
Goer appear larger than he is. The muscular chestnut stood
majestically as grooms afforded him regal treatment; indeed, he
deserved it, as Easy Goer has been the story of the New York racing
season.
Saturday's easy 4-length victory under jockey Pat Day over six
overmatched opponents in the Grade I Jockey Club Gold Cup took
nothing out of the still improving son of Alydar, who already has
won nearly $4 million in purses.
