HALLANDALE, Fla. - The guests are met, the feast is set,
and, to paraphrase Coleridge, it's now time to bet. In the
Breeders' Cup at Gulfstream Park, that is, where 89 of the world's
fleetest thoroughbreds were entered yesterday for Saturday's
seven-race program worth a cool $10 million.
With a touch of irony, Easy Goer and Sunday Silence drew
opposite ends of the starting gate in the showpiece $3 million, 1 1/
4-mile Breeders' Cup Classic, with Horse of the Year honors going
to the winner and the Nice Guy Award falling to the loser.
There are six other horses entered in the Classic, but none is
given much chance at the $1,350,000 winner's prize. Present Value,
