Julius Caesar as Martin Luther King?
The directorial take on Shakespeare's play, opening Wednesday
at Trinity Rep, was said to mirror Martin Luther King within the
blood-spattered history of the Roman Emperor. The New York Times
first said it, and The Globe echoed the reflection. But Oskar
Eustis, the 31-year-old director behind Trinity's "Julius Caesar,"
says that was never his "specific intention."
In an interview this week Eustis wondered aloud where the
Caesar/King analogy came from; definitely not from him.
"Specifically it's not true," Eustis said.
"Basically what I've tried to do is to frame 'Julius Caesar'
within a contemporary political context but without particularly ...
