AMHERST - Bruce B. Benson, a professor of physics at
Amherst College, died of respiratory failure in Northampton
Wednesday. He was 68.
A native of Choteau, Mont., Mr. Benson graduated from
Amherst College and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in
nuclear physics from Yale University.
He joined the Amherst College faculty in 1947. He was an
associate in physics at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
from 1957 to 1967 and an associate editor of the journal Marine
Chemistry from 1977 to 1990. He served on several National Science
Foundation advisory boards, was a member of two special National
Research Council panels and was a John ...
