"Hyperactive" is too strong a word for Placido Domingo, but just
barely. The next artistic director of the Washington Opera is as
busy and as versatile as any musician in living memory - as these
recordings indicate.
Unsurprisingly, he's not equally impressive in everything he does.
His attempts at singing American pop songs, for example, can be
called interesting at best. It's not likely that he would get the
conducting engagements he receives with some of the world's best
orchestras if not for his towering reputation as a singer. Still, his
talents are strong and multiple, and they are lavishly evident in
these discs.
