The man has coached one team to a national title in college
football, and another into the Super Bowl and nobody has the
slightest idea who he is. Twice this season, Bobby Ross had to pay
his way into the parking lot at Jack Murphy Stadium because the
parking attendants didn't know who he was. This is Ross's third year
as head coach of the San Diego Chargers. One of his former players at
the University of Maryland, Jess Atkinson, said of Ross: "To his
players, Bobby Ross is everything, but to everybody else out there
he's totally nondescript. He looks like an average Joe, he doesn't
have any real identity in the sports world despite being one of the
