Soul II Soul is out to integrate the world. The group's chic,
progressive sound cuts across sultry soul, DJ reggae, rap, old-time
R & B, Caribbean soca, African roots music and cool, oh, so cool,
jazz. Formed in the West Indian community of North London, Soul II
Soul came on strong last year, selling a million copies of its
debut album, "Keep on Moving," and winning two Grammy awards, for
best R & B performance for duo or group and best R & B instrumental
for "African Dance."
What makes Soul II Soul so special is its status as a
musicians' collective, with a floating cast of performers anchored
by producer/rapper/ opti mist Jazzie B, one of the most likable
figures on the pop scene.
