Three weeks into their new reign on Capitol Hill, Republicans have
passed through the joy of governance and run into its pain: the grim
realities that are making it more difficult than they once portrayed
to deliver on their 100-day agenda for broad governmental reforms.
While it has been a "great 16 days," Republicans may have been "a
tad ambitious" in their goals for the early days of the 104th
Congress, House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said Friday.
Republicans are "learning that being in the majority is no piece
of cake," said Senate Minority Leader Thomas A. Daschle (D-S.D.).
