The executive committee of the MIT Corporation yesterday
voted to nominate Charles M. Vest, provost of the University of
Michigan at Ann Arbor, as the next president of the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology.
Committee members then set a special meeting of the full MIT
Corporation, the governing body of the university, for Monday
morning. The corporation is expected to enthusiastically confirm
the selection of Vest, a mechanical engineer and former dean of
engineering at Ann Arbor.
MIT spokesman Kenneth Campbell yesterday confirmed the
committee action and the scheduling of the corporation meeting. He
said a press conference would be scheduled after the vote.
