BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Lawrence's James Johnson, the only
Massachusetts boxer here, left with a gold medal Wednesday night
after a 5-0 decision over Randal Crippen in his heavyweight bout.
He also nearly left with an Academy Award.
The 24-year-old Johnson, employed by Raytheon in Andover,
hammed it up repeatedly in the championship bout, for the sake of
what he called "entertaining" the crowd of 8,303 at the St. Paul
Civic Center.
"If you can do all the other things and entertain at the
same time," said Johnson, "the people will love you."
A cocky, hard-hitting Johnson gestured to the crowd before
