DORSET, Vt. - The only thing that's changed for the worse in
this town is the new sign on Williams' Store. There didn't use to
be a sign at all, and if you wanted to get something from Williams'
Store, you had to know it was the long building on Route 30, the
one with the school bus parked next to it. Now it's got one of
those generic Vermont carved-wood and gilt signs, and I suppose
anybody, even a stranger, could find Williams' Store. But you
won't find anything inside it for tourists. If you want vegetable
seeds, maple-sugar filters, bag balm (good for hands as well as
udders), barn boots, or anything you really need, ...
