CHARLOTTE MILTON CALDWELL GIESEN Virginia Delegate
Charlotte Milton Caldwell Giesen, 88, the first Republican woman
elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, died Jan. 28 at home in
Radford, Va. The cause of death was not reported.
Mrs. Giesen was elected in 1957 to represent Radford and
Montgomery County. In 1954, she became the first woman elected to the
Radford City Council.
She championed education and health issues in the General Assembly
but lost her 1961 reelection bid after opposing Virginia's policy of
