While media across the country have given much attention to the
issue of equal access for male and female reporters to locker
rooms, Yankee Conference coaches are taking the issue a step
further. They are questioning why anyone other than players,
coaches and trainers should be allowed in locker rooms,
particularly at the collegiate level.
The conference has no rule concerning reporters' access,
leaving the decision up to the individual schools. But one could be
adopted in the future, league commissioner Dave Nelson said
yesterday.
Several coaches interviewed yesterday said they were pleased
with their current way of dealing with media; most of them set up
postgame conference rooms ...
