Boston Edison, which operates the Pilgrim nuclear power
plant in Plymouth, is facing seven lawsuits charging that workers
were injured as a result of radiation problems at the troubled
facility and seeking $29 million in damages.
Although the cases were disclosed by the company in documents
filed with its 1989 electric rate increase request to the
Department of Public Utilities, Boston Edison officials did not
acknowledge that it faced more than one such suit when asked last
week.
Problems at the Pilgrim plant, once labeled the nation's worst
by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, came to public attention
again last week when a state public health study concluded there
