Article: Gang member convicted in shooting of S. End man

A Suffolk County jury convicted a self-admitted former gang member yesterday of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for the 1991 shooting of a South End father who was trying to break up a fistfight between his son and a reputed gang member.

The jury, however, acquitted George Proctor, 19, of the South End, of the more serious charge of armed assault with intent to murder.

Superior Court Judge Robert Banks ordered Proctor's bail revoked and scheduled sentencing for Tuesday. Proctor could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
