People from places with real winters scoff when Washingtonians complain about our few weeks of seasonal chilliness. Pay them no mind, and console yourself by contemplating orange juice.

While we shiver here, there are other places in the country whose primary occupation is to give our breakfasts a tasty subtropical bonus. A glass of OJ softens the solid practicality of a bowl of porridge or a plate of bacon, eggs and toast with a reminder of the warm air and sunny beaches awaiting us all if we and the Social Security fund hold out long enough.

You'd need a bad case of midwinter grumpiness to find fault with this drink. Yes, a whole orange might have more fiber, but the juices available ...
