Article: School Committee approves $378m budget, Flynn proposals

During a raucous meeting attended by hundreds of parents, teachers and a contingent of banner-toting student protesters, the Boston School Committee last night approved a $378.5 million budget for next year after a parade of speakers urged them to ignore the reform demands of a lame-duck mayor.

Despite the chorus of protests, the committee late last night voted unanimously to adopt Mayor Flynn's suggestion for a separate governing board for the vocational school at Madison Park High School to include business, academic, community and labor leaders. The exact structure will be worked out by May 30.
