CHICAGO -- When it was over, when the last disappointed Bulls fan
trudged out of the ancient Stadium, Charles started to have his fun
with the good people of Chicago.
"It was funny today to see the mayor and everybody on TV saying,
`Don't destroy the city,' " said Charles Barkley. "I was thinking,
`Damn, let's don't play the game. Let's get back to Phoenix in time
for happy hour.' "
The city of Chicago had big plans last night. It was to be the
night of the infamous Three-Peat. Everybody was worried about
violence in the streets of Chicago. Too much exuberance. There was
fear that it was going to be the 1968 convention all over again.
Public service spots were aired on television and ...
