If major league baseball comes to Northern Virginia before the end
of the century, the most likely location for a 45,000-seat ballpark
is a 164-acre parcel in Fairfax County, just east of Dulles
International Airport, local officials and planning specialists say.
The site is one of four in Fairfax and Loudoun County that Major
League Baseball officials visited yesterday to prepare for next
week's meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., when team owners may name as many
as three new franchises.
But among the sites being studied by local officials, only the one
in western Fairfax has the road network necessary to handle the more
than 14,000 cars that would flood into the area for 81 home games
