Indian holy man Satya Sai Baba has won a new Boston acolyte to add
to the glittery ranks of his local devotees.
Republican Party activist and former Harvard footballer Alexander
(Sandy) Tennant of Lynn returned last week from India with a little
red book of Sai Baba's sayings, a vial of sanctified dust from the
guru's private stock and tales of mystical feats from Sai Baba's
ashram in Andrha Pradesh.
Tennant says he witnessed Sai Baba turn a diamond into a ruby by
blowing on it, saw sanctified dust issuing from the palm of the
guru's hand and observed Sai Baba change a ring into a pearl necklace
before the eyes of astonished onlookers.
No, said Tennant, Sai Baba did not pull any rabbits out ...
