AUDUBON CIRCLE -- They were rejected in West Roxbury. Shunned in
Jamaica Plain.
But befitting their status as a Top Ten national pizza powerhouse,
despite the fact they are a local outfit that sells pies only in New
England and in upstate New York, Papa Gino's will indeed be opening a
new outlet this fall at a neighborhood near you: at 900 Beacon St. in
Audubon Circle, on the site of the former Taiwan Restaurant, hard by
the cacophonous confluence of Park Drive and Beacon Street near the
Brookline border.
Contrary to wiseacre speculation, Mama Gino did not clinch the
deal by beating the residents into submission -- although she did
have a cameo role.
No, this is a story of realpolitik. Or, ...
