Article: A needlepoint champ takes a classical turn

If you've ever wondered why people take up needlepoint, spend an hour or two with Despina Pantos, winner of the best in show award last year when the Women's Educational and Industrial Union revived its needlework exhibition. Not one to do things by halves -- "I love a project" -- Pantos took a pretty but pallidly upholstered Victorian armchair and worked a bold floral pattern for back, seat and rear. Unable to find decorative trim she liked, she designed her own and stitched it in petit point, which is needlepoint in miniature.
