Walter F. Boone, 97, an admiral who retired in 1960 as U.S.
representative to the military committee and standing group of NATO,
died March 19 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center after a heart
attack.
Adm. Boone also served as superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy
at Annapolis from 1954 to 1956 and then as commander of U.S. naval
forces in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean. His Navy career
spanned more than 40 years, beginning in World War I when, as a Naval
Academy midshipman, he served aboard the battleship Ohio in the
Atlantic.
He was born in Berkeley, Calif., and graduated from the Naval
