Article: Council opposes casino proposal

Delegates from the 15 member denominations of the Massachusetts Council of Churches voted unanimously at the council's recent annual meeting to oppose "the connection of casino gambling with the building of a new megaplex."

"The megaplex has great interest to many living in Massachusetts because it promises employment in construction and convention services. However, we fear that an increase in gambling will result in an escalation of the serious social problems that gambling creates," said the resolution, sponsored by the United Methodist delegation to the council.
