WASHINGTON -- NATO is "set to act" against anyone who shells the
Bosnian capital of Sarajevo, President Clinton said yesterday.
Speaking at a news conference shortly after NATO issued an
ultimatum ordering all heavy artillery to be pulled back 12 miles
from Sarajevo, Clinton said that NATO "stands ready to conduct air
strikes" if the terms it laid down after a marathon session in
Brussels are violated.
"No one should doubt NATO's resolve," Clinton warned. "NATO is
now set to act. Anyone, anyone, shelling Sarajevo must recognize
this fact and be prepared to deal with the consequences," he said.
