Joseph J. Urciolo, 74, a lawyer, real estate developer and
property manager, died of a pulmonary embolism March 20 at Walter
Reed Army Hospital.
Mr. Urciolo was a lifelong resident of Washington and a graduate
of Central High School, Catholic University and Columbus School of
Law. During World War II, he served in the Navy in the Pacific.
After the war, he worked in his family's real estate business and
later joined his brother, Raphael, in a law practice. In the late
1940s and early 1950s, the Urciolo brothers and black civil rights
lawyer Charles H. Houston were participants in a lawsuit that
resulted in the outlawing of racially restrictive covenants on real
estate property transfers. ...
