CLINTON -- I have journeyed here, to the heart of Bill Clinton's
America, to -- well, to get a haircut, but never mind that. On the
expense account it will read: To explore the many avatars of
Clintonism in modern society.
I. First and foremost we have this tiny mill town, one of 24 US
localities bearing the C-name, perched above the dam that backs up
the Wachusett Reservoir. "Best Town by a Dam Site," the bumper
stickers read, and I couldn't agree more: Haircuts at Vitrone's still
cost $6.
I am not the first to make the Clinton-Clinton connection.
Indeed, this town boasts a Clinton-to-Clinton committee that has been
trying for quite some time to lure Mr. Bill to hold a town meeting
here. ...
