One of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's noblest traditions is the composer-conducted concert. The BSO's second music director, Henri Rabaud, was a composer; Ravel, Prokofiev, Copland and Stravinsky conducted concerts, and in more recent seasons so have Michael Tippett, Gunther Schuller, Peter Maxwell Davies, Oliver Knussen and the late Witold Lutoslawski.
