STONEHAM -- Grace Hooper's scrapbook is full of pictures of her
girls: in the pool, at the prom, at high school graduation, posing in
front of the Christmas tree, goofing for the camera.
"This one," she said, pointing to a pretty teen-ager in a red
taffeta prom dress, "is doing real well. She got married and has two
children." She laughed. "This picture was in 1986. She came home
from school in tears and said she was supposed to go to the prom that
night, but didn't have a dress. We went to a second-hand place and
got her a dress for $10. Isn't she beautiful?"
Another picture. "She's not doing too well. She had a baby, but
