Article: Term Limits Backers Begin the Blame Game As House Defeat Looms

Anticipating defeat today on the first House vote on limiting congressional terms, supporters spent yesterday talking about who to blame.

Republicans blamed Democrats, who overwhelmingly oppose term limits. Democratic supporters of term limits faulted GOP leaders. And the leader of one term limits group charged another had failed to rally public support.

Two weeks ago, GOP leaders postponed the historic vote on the proposed constitutional amendment, a prominent part of the House GOP "Contract With America," to give activist groups time to turn up the political pressure.
