State Sen. William Keating's challenge to Senate President William
M. Bulger got a much-needed boost yesterday as a well-known Democrat,
former state Rep. John Flood, announced he is challenging a top
Bulger lieutenant, Sen. Paul White (D-Dorchester).
In announcing his candidacy, Flood, a one-time gubernatorial
candidate who has recently been trying to launch a Beacon Hill
lobbying career, pledged his support for Keating's effort to end
Bulger's longtime grip on the Senate president's gavel.
Flood, a maverick Democrat who shares White's conservative
positions, said his Senate campaign would be based on Bulger's "years
of absolute and autocratic rule."
