Article: JACK SHARKEY, BOXING CHAMPION AS HEAVYWEIGHT IN 1930S; AT 91

%EC%Jack Sharkey of Beverly, heavyweight champion of the world more than half a century ago and a favorite of fight fans ever since, died Wednesday in Beverly Hospital. He was 91.

Mr. Sharkey wrested the heavyweight title from Germany's Max Schmeling in a 15-round decision on the night of June 21, 1932, only to lose it to Italy's Primo Carnera in a sixth round knockout June 28, 1933.

Three years and several tumultuous bouts later, he fought his last fight. That was in 1936 when he was KO'd by an up-and-coming Joe Louis in the third round. He was 33.
