NEW YORK -- Jann Wenner is sitting in Rolling Stone's
warehouse-style Sixth Avenue offices, doors down from Radio City
Music Hall. His shiny corner sanctum, called "The Prince's Palace"
by its architects, is perched a floor above the river of changing
faces passing by. From his round table by the window, Wenner, 48,
has been known to wave down to approaching visitors, the lord of the
manor. The world-famous editor couldn't be farther from the
ink-stained storage loft in San Francisco's south-of-Market district,
where Rolling Stone was launched 27 years ago.
