NEWTON -- The right hand was shaking. Muhammad Ali's head also
was shaking. His words, too, sometimes were slowly shaking.
But as The Champ worked yet another room, maybe his trillionth,
smiling and shaking hands and signing his biography, here on the
bucolic campus of Mount Ida College, Skeeter McClure told a story of
how sharp Ali's mind still is.
"We were in the hotel the other night," said McClure, known
formally as Dr. Wilbert McClure, psychologist and Massachusetts
boxing commissioner, "and we were walking by an anteroom and {Ali}
saw a black man in a chef's hat. He stopped, cocked his right hand
and shouted, `Joe Frazier!' It broke the place up."
