New Kids on the Block, neither new nor kids after eight years
together, were destined to eventually grow up and apart. Now they
have. Their global, moneymaking ride has ended abruptly, sputtering
silent after a disappointing comeback.
"We had to do one album, one tour exactly the way we wanted to and
with complete dedication. We couldn't leave the New Kids with
something that wasn't closed," Donnie Wahlberg said on Tuesday from
his Braintree home. "Had we walked away two years ago, we would have
done solo albums and never come back. But we feel that we went out
with dignity."
