NEW ORLEANS -- The armadillos are coming.
The supermarket tabloids have been too preoccupied with White
House "bimbo eruptions" and accounts of JFK visiting Jackie's grave
to issue the warning, but the gravest threat since the "killer bees"
is steadily moving northward.
You heard it here first: the armadillo, the only species other
than man that is known to carry bacteria associated with Hansen's
disease, or leprosy. To make matters worse, the beast is coming in
the form of a 2-foot-long, prehistoric creature that looks like a
possum wrapped in armor.
