Remember Raylan Givens, the laconic coal miner turned federal
marshal of Elmore Leonard's last thriller, "Pronto"? Well, he's back,
along with the nimble Harry Arno, the fickle Joyce Patton and a whole
new cast of sometimes bumbling, sometimes comic but always dangerous
villains.
"Riding the Rap" (joint talk for doing your time) picks up Marshal
Givens's life three years later. He's working fugitive apprehension
out of the West Palm Beach Sheriff's Department and living uneasily
with Joyce, who, you'll recall, traded Harry in for Raylan at the end
of "Pronto." Only now she seems to be having second thoughts. Seems
