Call it the Rodney Dangerfield complex, or call it the second-city
syndrome. Whatever you call it, WAAF-FM feels it gets no respect.
"We always struggle for recognition in the Boston press," said
general manager Bruce Mittman.
Mittman said when he read articles in the Boston media on the
Lollapalooza concert, he was miffed that people at WBCN, and not
WAAF, were mentioned. "I would have thought to quote our {program
director} Ron Valeri."
Another example he cited was when his station was barely mentioned
in Woodstock coverage, even though it had exclusive rights to
broadcast the concerts. Apparently listeners were tuned in, though,
because when the weekly ratings soared, Mittman said, "I ...
