WRIGHT MORRIS: ORIGIN OF A SPECIES

Wright Morris' photographs speak a spare language, one without adjectives or self-conscious poetry. Although his works have a snapshot-like simplicity in content and technique, Morris has a stunning command of composition -- he is in complete control.

Taken with large-format cameras on road trips in the 1930s and 1940s, the photographs currently on exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts are detailed black-and-white studies, mostly of rural subjects, shot in a documentary style.
