The Folger Shakespeare Library has a brochure calling itself "a
lively library." With the musical show it is currently offering, that
description sounds like an understatement.
This library, at 201 East Capitol St. SE, is unlike any other
building anywhere. It houses not only the world's largest assemblage
of the rare First Folio edition of Shakespeare's works but also an
unparalleled collection of old books and manuscripts related to
Shakespeare scholarship.
Most of its contents are available only to scholars, but the
library maintains contact with the public. The exhibits in its Great
Hall are educational and entertaining; the small theater, modeled on
